Three Sisters Swamp: The Oldest Bald Cypress Forest on the Planet
In 2019, scientists discovered that several trees in Eastern North Carolina’s Three Sisters Swamp are over 2,000 years old; one is at least 2,624 years old. Located in a remote section of the Black River, the grove of trees is among the less than 1 percent of remaining virgin bald cypress forests in the United States. It’s a miracle these beautiful trees have escaped the axe for millennia--but could industrial agriculture threaten the ancient swamp’s future? Join us as we take a special tour of the Three Sisters Swamp with Cape Fear Riverkeeper Kemp Burdette.

Yosemite Moonlight Snowshoeing: Sony A7SII

I shot this footage last weekend in Yosemite National Park against the full moon. You'll see the occasional headlamp and glow from Curry Village but otherwise this was completely lit by the Moon. The conditions were cold, foggy and beautiful. Everything is shot handheld at 1/50 of a second. I did not color correct the footage. A Documentary short film about a Creature in the Giant Sequoias Warning: The footage in this film is not of an actual Sasquatch. Even if it was real I would need to get a DNA sample to know anything about the creature. Here's an elusive mammal in the Sierra Nevada's and documenting it is quite a challenge. Tata bye bye Khatami !
What's the best access point into 3 Sisters swamp? Thanks!
I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Three Sisters swamp a few weeks ago on a beautiful spring day. What an amazing, magical place. Some of these trees have twisted, split and battered trunks shaped like fantastical creatures, yet they were growing fresh, green leaves. That makes me wonder what the indigenous people of these lands thought of these trees.
extremely old trees are always the exceptions not the norm
Normally I’d expect a swamp to be deep muck but this is clean sand you can walk on? That’s amazing
what codec do you use for your drone footage
I feel so fortunate that UA-cam presented me with this precious work of yours. Thank you so much. What a majestic place! I have 2 Bald Cypresses that a nursery accidentally sent me when I ordered 2 Red Weigelia shrubs. I told them not to worry about it because I loved them but I didn’t know anything about them so I started searching for info on UA-cam last week and when I opened the app tonight, this video randomly came up. That place looks so awesome. I’m so thankful that it’s protected. I pray to God that God will continue to protect it from selfish, godless and reckless hypocrites who love money and not the beautiful planet that we live on. I live in southern Illinois, so much of the forest here I’ve been devastated by ignorant, farmers and irresponsible timber harvesters. They say we had 14,000,000 acres about 200 years ago, I think we’re down to about three million acres of woodlands now. It is so tragic when I think about it, it has caused me to weep. I am very lucky to live next to about 10 acres of Marshland, a riparian zone off of the Kaskaskia river here in South Western Illinois. I am planning on putting these two bald cypress trees that I have in the marsh land as that would be a perfect environment for them to thrive in. They are both about 3 feet tall right now and they are planted in my yard. I am praying to God that he will protect the forest around the world so that wise and intelligent people may enjoy them, and so foolish people may become wise as they look upon the awesome and precious trees that we have within our forest. Please keep up the good work. I hope and pray that you will make more films like this. May God bless you to do so. PS…there is a really precious and rare nature reserve in Southern Illinois called, “Prarie La Rue Pine Hills.” If you get a chance, please check it out. It is worthy of a lovely little short film like this, me thinks.
Great video. I am raising some bald cypress from seed I found in Douglas lake in east Tn. I'm going to plant them along side of my creekside property to combat erosion. I plan on fishing for redbreast sunfish in the Carolinas on one of those cypress covered rivers. Bucket list stuff. Beautiful
That is definitely a hoax
Awesome video guys ❤️ I hope nothing contaminates this paradise swamp.
Awesome.Thank you!
Good Deal
These giants are incredible. There is nothing like the old Cyprus forests. My favorite tree is the Kashmere Cypress, it is like a weeping willow, and in the fall, when it drops it's cones, and the leaves turn a light brown color, they are incredible beautiful. There are several growing across from where I work around a pond and sometimes I sit in the parking lot eating my lunch and just watch them, they are incredible. I live near the Great Dismal Swamp and sometimes take a flatbottom out and just look at the trees. Absolutely awesome. Thanks for a really great video. I have downloaded it and will watch it over and over. Never get enough.
Amazing work!
Swamps are super cool, especially with Cypress.
Just so haunting. Bravo!
I bet its creepy to camp there at night
There are trees this large in middle GA. There aren't as many, but there are a few as large, or larger than these.
This is about oldest not biggest. If you think you have older trees you should write to a researcher.
God’s creation is amazing and must be protected. Excellent video. Thank you.
Are there alligator out there? I know there are some one to that area.
Of course, but they are in shallow, clear, water, with the white sand bottoms. You can see everything you're walking through, and most the time, gators stick to deeper water. That's where you gotta watch out at.
Super cool. We are growing some up here in Missouri.
Something very reverent in those waters and trees. The Ivory Billed Woodpecker probably perched on those old Cypress. I paddled the South River which is an upstream tributary of this area a few years ago. Beautiful.
Beautiful Swamp
Beautiful video and beautiful trees. Thank you.
I love this swamp and would like to visit it one day. I googled it after reading "Where the crawdads sing" book by Delia Owens.
Fake.
Bwhahahahahaha
Arms are very long. Pretty real to me
Really great piece. Especially the closing videography was fantastic!
What it all boils down to.. Our population will destroy us.. We need the earth, she doesn't need people..
The Nature Conservancy is my favorite environmental group
Did anyone try to pick up any forensic evidence? It ran along a trail, on video ,that could reveal hair samples at least.
Made my first trip thru this place yesterday ...what a awesome place...thnx for the nice video
That was beautiful. We’ve got some really lovely bald Cypress swamps here in Arkansas and I love to just sit really still and listen. Every season sounds completely distinct. They are such busy, beautiful places. Your drone shots were so well done!
You've achieved that desired, and usually unreachable, melancholic mood everyone looks for when shooting this kind of scene. A totally mesmerezing experience. Thank you a lot for sharing this
Well It's strange that we have not found a body, or bones. But I have to say the baby pegion is also very rare but they do exsist. In the middle east how often do they walk up on a camels bones? Or even in the USA how often do we come up on a moose carcass
Wonderful video, very well done! I love canoeing through Cypress swamps. I have several near me here in southwest Indiana, which is home to some of the most northern bald cypress trees. Posey County is home to Twin Swamps nature preserve and Hovey Lake which have some very old stands of cypress trees. Also Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee is another wonderful area nearby to explore with some beautiful stands of bald cypress. I am also near Heron Pond and the Cache River in southern Illinois. These are some beautiful areas to explore as well. I especially enjoy the books, The Great Cypress Swamps by John V. Dennis and Ewel and Odums, Cypress Swamps book published by the Center for Wetlands at the Univ. of Florida. These are great reference books for anyone interested in learning more about swamps. I really enjoyed the excellent lighting of your video. This can be a challenge inside the swamps. You did a fantastic job creating this presentation. Thanks again for sharing.
Awesome brother 👏🏽 thank you for the video
INCREIBLE!!! :O
Canetuck
Fuck yeah dude so many of these 16mm test videos are like pretentious hipsters standing on a beach in a long flowing dress or just filming random boring stuff. Not you though. It makes me so happy to see someone using 16mm to actually film something interesting. Thank you for that.
Shawn Bannon, then why did you film it? And what did you use for the creature so skillfully jumping down the mountain side? Was that an orangutan, and how did you get hold of one to use it to film? No answers on these things in your description makes you suspicious in your intent. For years many people believed that was a real bigfoot. Are you another hoaxer; it seems that way, since you passed it off as real for years. And NOW you come clean and state it is not real???

Ok where does this guy Shawn Bannon say this is a fake? I saw this video posted first by a guy named Paris Roubaix or some spelling. How do we know this Shawn guy hijacked his video? I think some ppl are ignorant to believe there are undiscovered beings in this vast universe. How superior of you. And who makes anybody a Bigfoot expert if they have not actually been out in the woods?? Another video I believe is real is the John Walker video...this seems clearly real to me you can see matted fur and everything on this creature. So what the guy got close to it and didn't want to follow it...some are docile some are not would u really follow something into the woods you never ever seen in your life before??

I am so tired of people claim “powers.” I am an extremely intuitive person and somewhat clairvoyant, but I call BS on this type of person. They speak in general terms or just pure Horse poo poo!
One of the most epic footage ive ever seen
Really good. I can't understand why you have only 7100 views...
this red bigfoot is way too hairy, they are not that hairy, that was ridiculous.
I saw those trees long ago with my family...
Love Meldrum's response "what does the Sasquatch you are communicating with tell you?" lol. Great ding there Jeff, you know he was dying to burst out laughing. Sigh, what people claim these days...no wonder we can't get he funding or grants needed to do proper research. The woo crowd..smh.
And how Dr. Meldrum explains scientific process of questioning, forming a hypothesis.
